Staff Recommendation

Recognize four Coastside Volunteer Firefighters for distinguished length of service to the Coastside Fire Protection District.

 

Background/Discussion

This report is presented to acknowledge and celebrate the remarkable dedication and service of four members of the Coastside Volunteer Firefighters. These individuals have collectively contributed over 140 years of service to our community, demonstrating unwavering commitment and bravery. Their invaluable contributions have not only enhanced the safety and well-being of the Coastside area but also set a commendable standard for future volunteers. The Coastside Fire Protection District prides itself on a rich tradition of volunteerism and community service. Our volunteers are fundamental to our operations, playing critical roles in emergency response, public safety education, and community engagement. Recognizing the length of service of our volunteers is an essential aspect of honoring their commitment and fostering a culture of appreciation and respect within our ranks.

 

Coastside Fire Volunteer Fire Chief Roger Pimentel – 45 Years of Service

Volunteer Fire Chief Pimentel has served the district for 45 years, rising through the ranks to become Volunteer Fire Chief. He has been instrumental in several key initiatives, including helping to foster great relationships throughout the community. Chief Pimentel also served on the Board of Directors. His community impact has benefited the many, as he been a pivotal figure in several community programs and a mentor to many current firefighters.

 

Coastside Fire Volunteer Fire Captain Neal Solloway – 50 Years of Service

With a commendable half-century of service, Volunteer Fire Captain Solloway’s experience spans across various facets of firefighting and emergency response. Captain Solloway’s extensive PG&E expertise has served the District well over the years. Captain Solloway also contributes to his neighborhoods CERT team. Known for his leadership in critical incidents and helping to write the specifications for our Central States engines. He is a past recipient of the Volunteer Firefighter of the year award. His unwavering years of service to the District have had a widespread positive impact on the entire Coastside community.

 

Coastside Fire Volunteer Fire Captain Gregg Hosfeldt – 35 Years of Service

Volunteer Fire Captain Hosfeldt has served in various capacities, bringing extensive knowledge and expertise to the District. Captain Hosfeldt has a background in Public Agency Administration that has assisted the organization. Captain Hosfeldt has been a key individual in the mentoring and training of volunteer firefighters, demonstrating exceptional skill and dedication. Captain Hosfeldt also served on the Board of Directors.

 

Coastside Fire Volunteer Fire Captain Chad Fairbrother – 10 Years of Service

Since joining, Volunteer Fire Captain Fairbrother has shown remarkable growth, achieving the ranks of engineer and Volunteer Fire Captain. Captain Fairbrother was the first Volunteer Captain to achieve the rank of Fire Captain having satisfied the District’s rigorous training requirements. Captain Fairbrother has dedicated over 100 days of ride along’s with the engine company. This is in addition to the countless general alarms that Captain Fairbrother has also responded to. The dedication of Volunteer Fire Chief Roger Pimentel, Volunteer Fire Captain Neal Solloway, Volunteer Fire Captain Gregg Hosfeldt, and Volunteer Fire Captain Chad Fairbrother exemplifies the spirit of volunteerism that is the backbone of the Coastside Fire Protection District. Their contributions have not only safeguarded lives and property but have also inspired others to serve. As we celebrate their service milestones, we also reaffirm our commitment to recognizing the invaluable role of all our volunteers.

The District Board meets once a month on the fourth Wednesday afternoon at 4:00 p.m. at District Headquarters, 1191 Main Street, Half Moon Bay.

 

Any writings or documents provided to a majority of the Board regarding any item on the agenda will be made available for public inspection at the Administrative Office front counter located at 1191 Main Street, Half Moon Bay, California, during normal business hours.

 

If you wish to address the board at a meeting, please complete a Speaker Request Form and give to the Board Secretary prior to the start of the meeting.

CERT is a national program that trains the general public in basic disaster preparedness, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Here on the Coastside, Chief Cosgrave also covers hazards specific to our coastal community.

Coastside CERT is an emergency preparedness volunteer organization focused on creating a ready and resilient community along the San Francisco Bay Area coast from the southern side of the Tom Lantos Tunnel (Devil’s Slide) to Tunitas Creek Road.
