PRESS RELEASE. From the City of the Half Moon Bay on March 8th, 2023.

At its March 7 meeting, the Half Moon Bay City Council honored the many first responders who were first on the scene to the January 23 mass shooting incident. This unimaginable event has left an indelible mark on our close-knit Coastside community, and our first responders are to thank for ensuring such a timely and effective response.

The City wants to personally thank all those that provided help and support during the January 23 event. First responders included personnel of the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office, CAL FIRE – San Mateo Division, the San Mateo County Emergency Medical Services Agency, American Medical Response, and the San Mateo County Office of Emergency Communications.

“It is important that we as a Council and Community recognize the extreme sacrifices that our first responders make day in and day out. Putting their lives on the line to help protect our small, wonderful community. They risk their lives away from their families so that we can feel safe with ours. I am forever indebted to our first responders for helping us get through such a horrific crisis,” said Half Moon Bay Mayor Deborah Penrose.

First responders face incredible challenges every day to keep us safe. This past year and throughout the years it has been especially true as our public safety personnel continue to uphold their oath to protect and serve during catastrophic storms, a mass shooting, and a global pandemic. While we appreciate the work of these individuals each and every day, the City of Half Moon Bay wants to ensure we dedicate extra time to thank them for their selflessness and dedication.

Join us as we highlight the commitment and sacrifices made by those in emergency communications, the fire service, law enforcement, and emergency medical services (EMS), as well as the first responders across our nation who commit to maintaining and improving public safety each and every day.
