PRESS RELEASE. From Caltrans on August 25th, 2023.
State Route 92 near Half Moon Bay, San Mateo County, a conventional two-lane highway west of State Route 35, developed a sinkhole in January 2023 related to significant weather events and a failed drain/ culvert.
Crews were able to quickly fill the sinkhole and shift the roadway over to allow permanent repairs to be completed without impacting traffic. Traffic remains fully open in both directions.
The majority of repair work is being completed from the side of the roadway and is not visible to motorists. This work method allows motorists and bicyclists to use SR-92 while repairs are completed.
WORK REQUIRED FOR DAMAGE REPAIR
• Installation of new 36” diameter cross drain pipe
• Ground and slope stabilization
• Re-establish lane configuration
• Vegetation landscape work
The truck climbing lane remains closed for safe transportation of materials and equipment as
crews complete repairs and address additional needs along the corridor.
