Aluminum Supply Chain Stalls Medio/Miramar Bridge Replacement Project until Beginning 2023

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

NEWSLETTER. From the Midcoast Community Council (MCC) newsletter for Summer 2022.

An improved replacement bridge is underway after winter storm damage to the foundation had increased the scope of the work. The work in the beach area is expected to be complete by October, however, due to a supply shortage of aluminum, the fabrication of the bridge may extend the completion date to later this year or early next year.

The bridge has been closed since July 27, 2020.

See the “Mirada Road Pedestrian Bridge Replacement – Miramar Area” on the San Mateo County Public Works webpage.

Project Status

Bridge Closure:

  • Bridge was closed on July 27, 2020 due to the severe rusting and poor condition of the bridge (see Bridge Closure Announcement).
  • The detour route is opened on September 21, 2020 after Public Works obtained Caltran’s approval to provide a detour route on HWY 1 shoulder within their right of way.

Construction:

  • Anticipated construction: June 2022
  • 120 working days (bridge fabrication may extend construction window)
