Abundant Grace and Potrero Farms’ “Bike Hut Classic” Raises $49,800 with 390 Riders Climbing 2,000 Feet

NEWSLETTER. From Abundant Grace, written by Rhiannon Rogstad.

Thank you to our wonderful sponsors and riders for making our 3rd annual Bike Hut Classic fundraiser ride a success! What a thrill to have over 390 riders register for the event this year. We enjoyed seeing repeat riders and meeting new folks from all over the Bay Area and beyond at the Ride Reception on July 30th at the farm. Special congratulations to the riders who posted top times in their age categories. The joy, energy, and dedication of the cycling community is second to none!

We continue to offer this event as a DIY ride, from the Bike Hut, at Potrero Nuevo Farm to the top of Tunitas Creek Road at Skyline. Riders post their times to Strava once they have completed the climb – nearly 2000 feet! As in past years, some riders make the trip more than once, some riders post a personal record, and some riders tackle the climb as a group.

This year we had a stretch goal to raise $50,000 to support all of AGCW’s programs and services. We were blown away by the support and, after receiving several employer matching gifts, we are excited to say that we raised over $49,800 this year! WOW!

As we have continued to develop and grow this event, we have learned so much about the incredible support that cyclists offer to one another as they take on new goals and ride new routes.

The feeling of camaraderie mixed with some healthy competitive spirit is an inspiring reminder to all of us that we can meet challenges in our lives together in community, dig deep within ourselves for strength, and celebrate with one another when we meet our goals.

Proceeds from the Bike Hut Classic benefit Abundant Grace Coastside Worker, longtime partner of Potrero Nuevo Farm where the Bike Hut is located.

Abundant Grace hires the homeless to work on this beautiful organic farm, giving them purpose, community and a way to earn money.

Please join us for the Bike Hut Classic this July and take part in our 3rd annual bike ride fundraiser!

We encourage riders to come out, have fun and support the cause. For those who enjoy a little competition, the fastest times in each category get their names and times engraved on a plaque displayed for all to see inside the Bike Hut. We will also be highlighting the bike clubs that go the extra mile and raise additional dollars for Abundant Grace through peer-to-peer fundraising!

All riders (who register by July 11) receive a custom T-shirt with original block print artwork by HBS Artworks (new design for 2022!) and a chance to win raffle prizes from Patagonia and more.

Abundant Grace also runs a farm apprenticeship program that includes accountability and mindfulness workshops. Additionally, they have a Coastal Clean Team that clears trash from our beaches, and in 2020 opened a WorkForce Development Center to provide resources to folks who desperately need them. Abundant Grace transforms lives through our job-readiness programming: taking people experiencing homelessness to grow and harvest over 20,000 pounds of fresh, organic produce for free distribution to low-income families at our Full Circle Food Justice Program; and to clean up the environment of the beaches and trails of Half Moon Bay on the Coastside Clean Team.  We are doing good, meaningful work together; we are making a difference in our community; we are transforming our very selves. Please be a part of this unique project.  Make common cause with us. We can’t do it alone…we need your participation and support.
