PRESS RELEASE. From San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office on October 13th, 2026.
You may notice an increased presence of local police agencies on the coast today as the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office and police departments participate in the Saturation Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP).
STEP is a collaborative effort that brings together motorcycle deputies and officers from across the county to improve traffic safety through education, enforcement and prevention.
Locations for STEP are based on data. Last year, deputies made an astonishing 147 DUI arrests on the coast.
These focused efforts are a key part of keeping our roads safe for everyone who lives in, works in and travels through our communities. STEP operations take place each month throughout San Mateo County.
Remember to slow down, keep your eyes on the road and never drive under the influence.
