Caltrans District 4 Environmental Project Documents by County.
Caltrans is proceeding with the major Multi-Asset Roadway Rehabilitation Project along Highway 1, extending from Moss Beach through Half Moon Bay. This extensive two-year project will upgrade critical roadway infrastructure, enhance safety, and improve access for all users traveling the coast.
We strongly encourage you to sign up for Caltrans’ periodic email notifications about this project.
Construction is anticipated to begin in fall of 2025 and continue through summer of 2027. To help minimize traffic impacts, most work will take place during nighttime hours.
SAN MATEO COUNTY ― Caltrans continues work on the State Route (SR) 1 Multi-Asset Roadway Rehabilitation Project with concrete, electrical, and paving work. There will be overnight lane closures at various locations between Marine Blvd. in Moss Beach and Wavecrest Road in Half Moon Bay, most occurring between 8 p.m. and 6 a.m., starting on Wednesday, March 18. All work will take place on weeknights.
- Crews will close lanes to accommodate overnight electrical work at the intersections of SR-1 & SR-92 and SR-1 & Main Street in Half Moon Bay starting on Wednesday, March 18 and lasting approximately two weeks.
- Excavation work will start Monday night, March 23, and continue nightly for approximately two weeks, Monday through Friday nights. People who live close to the work sites will be notified in advance and should expect some nighttime noise. Excavation work will create enough room for a new bike lane and buffered striping area to enhance bicyclist safety. Work will take place at each location for two to three nights:
- Between Poplar St. and Kelly Ave.
- South of Mirada Rd.
- North and South of Magellan Ave.
- Between Coronado and Capistrano Rd.
- Near Coral Reef Ave.
- Near North Capistrano Rd.
- Concrete and electrical work will take place nightly at the intersection of SR-1 and Kelly Avenue during the week of April 13-17.
- In early April, roadway paving work will begin, necessitating lane closures at various locations within the project limits.
Please expect minor delays and allow extra time. Some daytime work may be necessary at short notice.

Just emailed Supervisor Mueller’s office about this project not including any middle mile broadband conduit. This is such a missed opportunity. I emailed him as there may be a small window to change order this into the project. These opportunities don’t come very often so if you’re interested in better broadband infrastructure, I’d suggest reaching out to our elected officials as well to voice your support.
Great thinking!!! Thank you Mark. Let us know how things go.
