From the Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside‘s (SAM) Nextdoor by Superintendent, Tim Costello, on September 15th, 2025 and from the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Surveillance on Wastewaters (Cal-SuWers) Network. CDPH has plans to add RSV and Flu data in a few weeks in time for respiratory virus season.

About the Dashboard’s Page
This dashboard displays an overview of wastewater surveillance data for SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19).

The California Surveillance of Wastewaters (Cal-SuWers) Network collects and analyzes wastewater samples. Partners to the CDPH Cal-SuWers program include the CDPH Drinking Water and Radiation Lab (DWRL), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Wastewater Surveillance System (NWSS), WastewaterSCAN, wastewater utilities, academic researchers, laboratories (private and local county health departments) and other partners across the state.

One thing to note is that the CDPH dashboard data are lagged by about a week.

This dashboard provides an overview of data from testing wastewater for the SARS-CoV-2 virus in California. This data is generated by those participating in the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) California Surveillance of Wastewaters (Cal-SuWers) network.

Contributors to this network include the CDPH Cal-SuWers Program, WastewaterSCAN, the CDC National Wastewater Surveillance System (NWSS), wastewater utilities, and academic, laboratory, and other state and federal partners.

The CDPH Cal-SuWers program and network participate in the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) National Wastewater Surveillance System (NWSS).


Data Available

  • Pathogens: SARS-CoV-2 (COVID-19)
  • Metrics: Viral concentrations, levels, and trend analyses for SARS-CoV-2
  • Coverage Areas: Participating sewersheds and aggregates of participating sites across the state and for each health officer region.


Last Data Update

SARS-CoV-2 : 09/11/2025 for statewide; 09/11/2025 for regions; 09/16/2025 for sewersheds.
Please note that the state metrics may be updated at a different time than the regional metrics.

  • From left menu bar see “Select Pathogen” (Currently only Covid; Flu and RSV to follow for respiratory virus season)

  • From left menu bar see “Select Region” and select “Bay Area (ABAHO)”
  • From left menu bar see “Choose a Wastewater Sewershed by County (Utility Name)” and select “San Mateo (Half Moon Bay)”
