CONSENT AGENDA. From the Cabrillo Unified School District (CUSD) Board meeting on Thursday, February 27th, 2025 at 6:00pm (New Time) at Cunha Intermediate School Library, 600 Church Street (New Place), Half Moon Bay. In person comments only, streamed live on PCTVAgenda.  Consent agenda Item #5i: Approval of MOU with Cabrillo Unified School District and Mavericks Swim Association.

Background
Since 1998, Mavericks Swimming Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, has been a vital partner in providing aquatic opportunities to the Coastside community. Mavericks has maintained and co-funded the Half Moon Bay High School swimming pool for over 25 years, allowing Half Moon Bay High School Athletics to offer competitive swimming and water polo teams. HMBHS also offers swim and water safety instruction as part of the school’s physical education curriculum. In addition to serving CUSD students, Mavericks provides valuable programs for the broader community.

This revised MOU strengthens our partnership with Mavericks, ensuring continued access to aquatic programs while supporting maintenance and operational costs

Report/Proposal
CUSD & Mavericks Use Agreement Final

Fiscal Analysis
Mavericks contributes $5,000 annually towards maintenance and operational costs.

Term of Agreement and Review
This Agreement shall become effective on the date set forth above, shall continue until at least December 30, 2030 (the “Base Period”), and thereafter continue until such time as one or both parties terminate the Agreement in accordance with the terms of this Agreement.

In the last year we have made incredible progress in our plans for a new two pool concept for the community at the High School. As of September 2023, we have raised over $30,000 to put towards the feasibility study needed to begin the creation of the Aquatic Center. We are also delighted to share that we have partnered with the Aquatic Design Group RSM to help us achieve this dream. They are a renowned and established design group that were also used to design and build the pools in Sonoma. The pools shown above are Sonoma High School’s new pools that opened in Summer 2022.
We hope to build something similar at Half Moon Bay High School for our entire community to use.
