Seal Rescue ~ Ceeley the Harbor Seal

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

Ceeley’s Sick!

Lisa Fernandez is the Half Moon Bay Yacht Club’s manager. She runs the club and manages the impromptu seal sanctuary that pops up randomly on docks around the YC. She keeps a vigilant eye out because sometimes the seals need a little human help.

One day a month or so ago, Lisa saw a harbor seal on the YC’s floating ferry. She knows that’s a bad sign because when they are happy and healthy they hang together on the seal dock a hundred feet away. Solo seal often means sick seal.

The Rescue

Thanks goodness Lisa has the Marine Mammal Center’s Rescue number on her cell phone’s speed dial.

This is the number to call:

415-289-SEAL (415-289-7325).

You can put this number into your speed dial right now. You never know, you could be a Seal Super Hero, like Lisa!

After she called, Marine Mammal Center’s Sue Hawley and Rusty Rosenberg, they got in their truck and came to the YC to capture Ceeley. Then they drove her to Marin and the Center where she would be fed. She was only 8.4 kilos!

The Release

In four weeks Ceeley was 22 kilos and was released with some other harbor seal rescues.  She is the pretty little seal on the left. And now, thanks to Lisa’s sharp eyes and kind heart, Ceeley is out there in the ocean, swimming with her friends.
