August 2024 UPDATE
- Consultant design team is developing design plans for emergency repair, with 60% of the design plans complete.
- A field meeting with potential contractor is scheduled for August 12, 2024.
- A meeting with the California Coastal Commission is scheduled for August 13, 2024.
- A project fact sheet has been developed and can be found here.
- The County will be conducting door-to-door canvassing on Thursday, August 15, 2024 and Friday, August 16, 2024, during which the fact sheet will be distributed. We will also provide a brief overview of the project, including the timeline and potential impacts. Any questions, feedback and concerns will be noted and brought back to the project team for follow-up.
About the Project
Recent storm events and wave actions have caused significant damage to the western edge of Mirada Road between Medio Avenue and Magellan Avenue. Accordingly, the Department will be closing the southbound lane of Mirada Road to all traffic between Magellan Avenue and Medio Avenue on March 6, 2024 (weather permitting).
March 6, 2024 – Southbound Lane Closure
March 7, 2024 – Mirada Rd southbound lane closure is in effect. As noted in the Notification letter (dated February 27, 2024), the Department will evaluate traffic and circulation impacts on Magellan Ave and may make additional modifications, which could include one-way eastbound-only traffic on Magellan Ave.
April 2 , 2024 – Supervisor Mueller will be hosting a Community Meeting to provide an opportunity for residents to learn more about Mirada Road and to have an opportunity to ask questions of County staff regarding the changes to Mirada Road. The meeting will be at 6:00pm at Supervisor Mueller’s Coastside Office located at the Shoppes at Harbor Village, 270 Capistrano Road, Unit 6, Half Moon Bay, CA 94019. (See link below)

May 2024
- The Department of Public Works (DPW) was able to secure $1,156,661 in County funding for the Mirada Road Repair Project through savings from the Mirada Road Pedestrian Bridge Project.
- DPW is working with consultants to develop a team to address the emergency repair work and long term repair plan that will include coastal, civil, and geotechnical engineers. Part of this work will include the community outreach and engagement plan.
- DPW has met with a contractor in the field and is reviewing a proposal that was submitted for roadway stabilization. However, the current budget is not sufficient to fund the repairs based on the proposal received.
- DPW has installed additional signs for the one-way roadway configuration and continues to monitor the traffic patterns for additional modifications. DPW has also marked a portion of Magellan Avenue near Mirada Road as no parking to improve conditions in that area.
- DPW is working towards starting the emergency work to stabilize Mirada Road. Work is expected to start in July of 2024 at the earliest, pending permit approvals and sufficient funding. Permit approvals are needed from external agencies and the approval and timing of permits is outside of the control of DPW.
June 2024
- DPW finalized consultant design team, which includes leads in environmental, civil design, geotechnical, survey and community outreach.
- The consultant design team held a kick-off on-site meeting on June 11th. DPW continues to collaborate with them on the design and permitting process for the emergency repairs, holding weekly meetings.
- An aerial LIDAR survey was conducted using a drone during the week of June 17th.
- Emergency work to stabilize Mirada Road is expected to start in late summer/early fall, pending permit approvals and sufficient funding.
- The consultant design team is developing a work plan for long-term solutions, including community engagement.
