Text Version

The San Mateo County Harbor District Received their Pillar Point Harbor Dredging Permit from the Army Corp of Engineers. This is AFTER 10 YEARS of federal and state permitting processes. This is also after the San Francisco Bay Regional Water Quality Control Board administratively delayed permit approval which caused the loss of a $800k California Boat and waterways grant.  Now there is only ONLY ONE PERMIT TO GO and that is for the Greater Farallones National Marine Sanctuary which is expected to be a rubber stamp from previous permit approvals. The dredge pilot will be funded through the general budget, although the District is applying for more grants. Check out the post as it includes a blow-by-blow of the Dredging Permitting Process.

Staying in the Harbor… The Commissioners approved the Surfers Beach RV Park Lease with a major payment increase (going from $3k to $15k a month). There will also be more accountability for Coastal Development Permit contingencies one of which is the trimming and removal of the cypress trees to maintain the visual corridor. Since the signing of the lease this work has now commenced. The public was disgruntled over loss of parking and the lack of prior lease compliance. The General Manager pointed out that there are still 13 public parking spaces, several which are ADA compatible.

The Half Moon Bay City Council denied all 3 appeals against the 555 Kelly Senior Farmworker Affordable Housing Project. Negotiating the lease agreement comes next. Stay tuned as this gets legally complicated.

The San Mateo County Supervisors have approved the first at-large election for the Pescadero Municipal Advisory Council (PMAC).  They approved the election for 7 candidates. The PMAC had agreed on June 11th, 2024 at their regular meeting on 5 candidates to be put on the ballot so there seems to be some confusion on the election details that need to be ironed out.

KPDO’s Catherine Peery mentions that there was a hybrid meeting last week about Fire Station #59’s design. They are now looking for public input. There may also be room for an urgent care clinic.

The Half Moon Bay Planning Commission voted 3-2 to deny putting ADUs and Measure D on the 2024 Ballot but unanimously agreed to recommend that the City Council update the 1998 Downtown Map via ballot. This will go to the City Council next.

OPEN!!! The Surfer’s Beach Restroom Project received a Certificate of Occupancy making restrooms available to the public from 5am to 10pm. Worth a field trip to check it out.

The San Mateo County Supervisors considered the design of a new Office of Labor Standards and Enforcement to battle $4.6M in Wage Theft from restaurant, construction, farmworkers…indeed all low-income employees

The San Mateo County CARE Court is set to launch July 1, 2024. The CARE court will provide community-based support for those with untreated serious mental illness.

The Coast House Shelter received $5M from San Mateo County Measure K Funds for WeHOPE to provide homeless shelter services through June 2027. Coast House is where the Coastside Inn is at Kelly and Hwy 1.

The Montara Water and Sanitary District (MWSD) is pivoting from at-large to districted, or “division” elections. For this election they will have 1 At-Large and 2 By-Division Director seats OPEN for the 2024 Election. Have a look at the map to see if you would like to run for office!
