Applications for the 2024 Upwind Summer Scholarship Program are due on February 16th.

This amazing scholarship provides high school students the opportunity to become certificated private pilots during the summer between their junior and senior year.

Upwind Summer Scholarship Program Goals: Provide ground and flight training to Bay Area high school juniors with a passion for aviation. Scholarship recipients will complete a 9-week intensive training program during the summer between their junior and senior year to prepare them to take the FAA Private Pilot Airplane examination. We are committed to diversity and encourage all interested students to apply.

 

Upwind Summer Scholarship Program Objectives: Promote aviation and cultivate interest in aviation as a career to high school students.

 

Scholarship Candidate Requirements:

  • High school student at least 17 years old by August 1st
  • Good academic standing
  • Passion for aviation
  • Ability to complete a challenging, full-time training program during the summer

The Upwind Summer Scholarship provides comprehensive ground and flight training to the successful candidate(s).

 

Specifically, the Scholarship includes:

  • FAA third class medical examination
  • Ground school instruction
  • FAA Knowledge Test
  • Flight training material
  • Flight instruction
  • Phase checks at training milestones
  • Check ride with FAA designated pilot examiner
  • Mentoring from the San Carlos aviation community

 

The Upwind Scholarship Program is based at the San Carlos Airport.

Meet the Upwind Class of 2023!

Upwind Foundation is pleased to announce the Upwind Class of 2023. The following San Francisco Bay Area high school juniors have been awarded the flight scholarship: Nailah Blake of San Mateo, Ava Gaboury of Belmont, Charlotte MacAvoy of Hillsborough, Thomas Woneis of San Jose, and Cyrus Wong of San Jose.

Upwind Foundation is pleased to announce the Upwind Class of 2022. The following San Francisco Bay Area high school juniors have been awarded the flight scholarship: Maheesa Cassim of Fremont, Nathaniel Joffe of Mountain View, Jack Olson of San Mateo, Alex Shetty of Belmont, and Brayden Snedigar of Los Altos. All five aspiring young aviators have successfully obtained their private pilot certificates after nine weeks of intensive instruction.

Upwind Foundation is pleased to announce of Upwind Class of 2021. The following San Francisco Bay Area high school juniors have been awarded the flight scholarship: Alex Fester of Palo Alto, Isabela Sugden of San Carlos, Mikey O’Sullivan of San Francisco and Teddy Seligman of San Mateo. In this accelerated flight training program, these four aspiring young aviators will aim to earn their private pilot’s certificate after nine weeks of intensive instruction.
