PRESS RELEASES. From Miramar Events, January 22nd, 2024 and from San Mateo County Executive’s Office on January 23rd, 2024.
“The Pacific Coast Dream Machines is a charitable fundraiser for the Coastside Adult Day Health Center.”
Organizers of the Pacific Coast Dream Machines announced today that there will be no 2024 Pacific Coast Dream Machines Event this Spring due to delays in the permitting process through the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).
The Board said, “With a heavy heart we must inform you that our beloved Pacific Coast Dream Machines Event will not be moving forward this year. After seven months of pre-planning, we must cancel the event due to aberrant delays in the permitting process with the FAA. We are no longer able to continue moving forward for a 2024 event at the Half Moon Bay Airport.”
This decision does not come lightly, but with the event show date just three months away, the financial risk of proceeding is becoming too great since there is still a possibility that the permit may be denied. The Pacific Coast Dream Machines is a charitable fundraiser for the Coastside Adult Day Health Center.
Since the event is held at an active airport, organizers must work with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to get an event approval. Considerations include ensuring the safety of patrons and aircraft, and keeping the active airfield open. Regulations continue to evolve; the committee has worked hard to be nimble to meet any new requirements put forth by the FAA.
Regarding the possibility of any future Dream Machines event, the planning committee is working to explore options for receiving an FAA response within a useful time frame in future years. The Pacific Coast Dream Machines committee is hopeful for a return in 2025 in order to ensure that this cherished event has a long-lasting future within the Coastal community and as a fundraiser for the Coastside Adult Day Health Center.
“The leadership group wants again to thank all the many volunteers who continue to be so critical to the function and success of our event these many years. We hope to see you there again.” Those interested in helping to offset our financial loss as a result of canceling this year’s event can make a tax-deductible donation to support the work of the Coastside Adult Day Health Center. Please send checks to the Coastside Adult Day Health Center, 925 Main St., Suite A, Half Moon Bay CA 94019. Donations can also be made securely online at https://www.coastsideadultdayhealth.org/contribute. Your continued support is greatly appreciated.

Redwood City – The Half Moon Bay Airport and County of San Mateo are disappointed the annual Pacific Coast Dream Machines show will not take place this spring due to a combination of factors including increased permitting requirements by the Federal Aviation Administration.
Two other major events slated for the County’s two airports in 2024 also remain up in the air: the Emergency Vehicle Operation Course, a safe driving training for local law enforcement hosted by the Sheriff’s Office at the Half Moon Bay Airport; and the Runway Run organized by the Hiller Aviation Museum at the San Carlos Airport.
The County’s Department of Public Works’ Airport Division applied for permits for all three events. The FAA notified the County that the FAA wants safety and environmental reviews prior to potentially granting approval.
Citing the small window of time — Dream Machines was scheduled for April — and potential financial risk, event organizers informed Airports that it would not be hosting the annual show.
Airport staff remain hopeful the FAA will permit the two other pending events.
“All three of these events are well-loved and appreciated in the County and we were hopeful to see them return in 2024,” said Airports Director Gretchen Kelly. “However, we also understand that the organizers must do what they deem best. We’re keeping our fingers crossed now that the other two shows will still happen this year and that Dream Machines can return in 2025.”

Maybe not enough free vendor space for promotion of fantasies by MAGA climate deniers? Doofus conspiracy theories with no basis in fact are easy to generate. For many years Dream Machines, which originated from some well-meaning efforts by old guard interests in HMB to support a facility in HMB, imposed unacceptable traffic nightmares on unincorporated Midcoast communities for several days. In recent years, the Dream Machine people seem to have figured out how to ameliorate most (but not all) of the traffic mess to the degree that traffic was not a major problem for Midcoast locals. It would be good to know the specific reasons for the new FAA objections that appear to have been dropped on the organizing committee and how they can be overcome in the future.
I’m sure there is more to the story, not enough EV’s on display?
