PRESS RELEASE. From Montara Water and Sanitary District‘s (MWSD) Chair, Scott Boyd on Nextdoor.
Thank you to everybody who came out to celebrate Montara Water & Sanitary’s 65th anniversary today! A great big thanks to our most excellent crew and staff who clearly poured their hard work and community spirit into wonderful preparations! So much to see, great food. Super work! Of course, they’re also the ones who do all the heavy lifting day in, day out, and deserve heaps of appreciation. I hope they all felt the love from the community today!
The day started with three tours of the District’s facilities. Over forty community members took the tour. I hope you all enjoyed it. I hear that lots of great questions were asked. Thank you!
The afternoon celebration was heartwarming and uplifting. So many people who have, over the years, given of themselves to see to it that the water flows, and in the right directions. Welcome guests included engineers, hydrogeologists, our colleagues and friends from the Sewer Authority Mid-Coastside (SAM), accountants, lawyers, consultants, all part of the long-running team effort, each playing a vital role in helping our community achieve “impossible” goals like taking over a failing water system 20 years ago(!), and making it into a system we can rely on.
It was great to see and spend time with Lou Wall, who served for many years, and has helped out ever since, especially as our ersatz historian. And Jim Harvey, who started out as a founding member of the Montara Moss Beach Water Improvement Association, and then served 23 years on the MSD-turned-MWSD board. And Fran Pollard, who served many years on the GCSD board, and whose husband Larry served on the GSD board and helped found SAM. And Barbara Dye, now serving on the GCSD and SAM boards. And, of course, current board members Kathryn Slater-Carter, Peter Dekker, Bill Softky, and Cid Young. I know I didn’t see and talk to everyone, so if I missed you, thank you for being there, and I hope you had a great time.
A hearty thank you to County Supervisor Ray Mueller for coming out, spending time with everyone, and sharing a terrific Board resolution to honor the district! And to Sen. Josh Becker, who sent a very nice resolution. Both resolutions will likely grace our entryway soon.
A special note of appreciation to community members who I finally got to meet in person. We really appreciate those who participate in board meetings by Zoom, and it was so nice to finally properly meet you! And a big tip of the hat to MWSD’s newest board members, Bill Softky and Cid Young, our celebration committee members who worked so hard. Great result, thank you!
With gratitude,
MWSD Chair, Scott Boyd.
PS: Today reminded us that our community has no shortage of people able to help tend to the needs of Montara and Moss Beach. Are you interested in helping out in some way? If you might be, let me know. Or talk to any board member or give our General Manager Clemens Heldmeier a call. We’d be happy to help you explore some possibilities.
PPS: Michelle from Coastside Buzz was there. Thank you for sharing so much good information with the community about public affairs!
