The drive between Half Moon Bay and Santa Cruz is about to get slower for the rest of the summer. Caltrans has announced an asphalt replacement program beginning on July 11 as reported by the Half Moon Bay Review.
Where Is the Traffic Expected?
Work will run from Mile Post 3.3 to 21.5 on Highway 1.
That is just south of Bean Hollow Road in Pescadero north past Tunitas Creek Road.
Work will also take place to the south, from near Green Oaks Road, not far from Año Nuevo, north to Bean Hollow Road.
When Are Closures Scheduled?
Caltrans says the work will begin on July 11 and continue into the first week of October.
There will be one-way traffic control from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
The state transportation agency says one lane will remain open at all times.
The construction zone will likely be noisy.
Caltrans says that the new asphalt will ultimately improve the life span of the road.
Plan Ahead
Going north? Hit the can at one of the Pescadero Beaches. There are bathrooms at all of these beach parks. Stop in at Duarte’s, in Pescadero, for lunch before you head south. There is also a taqueira and a market to stock up on snacks, in Pescadero. Pretty town to walk around. Make sure you have food and water in case the trip takes longer than you think. Might as well slow down and enjoy the world class view!
Coming south? Kelly’s French Bakery is yummy spot to top off your caffeine needs and satisfy your super savory or sweet bakery cravings. There is also a public bathroom there.
