Ride Plus is a shared, on-demand transportation option similar to ride-hailing platforms like Uber and Lyft. But, unlike commercial ride-hailing services, the cost for Ride Plus is fixed and will not vary based on distance traveled or time of day. Vans can seat up to seven passengers plus one wheelchair or 10 passengers depending on which vehicle arrives. Customers may have to share a ride with other passengers.
Ride Plus is a new shared-ride service that can take you anywhere within Half Moon Bay, East Palo Alto, and the Belle Haven neighborhood of Menlo Park.
It’s completely free to use through the end of October 2023!
Leave the driving to us and relax on your way around town to shop, work, explore, or when transferring to SamTrans routes.

SamTrans extends free rides on popular new microtransit service, Ride Plus
More than 1,000 passengers have now taken advantage of a free promotional period to sample an innovative, new way to get around in San Mateo County called Ride Plus.
Ride Plus launched on June 18 with a free-to-use promotional period through the end of July. That period has now been extended to continue through the end of October.

The service currently serves two zones: East Palo Alto/Belle Haven neighborhood of Menlo Park and the Half Moon Bay Area. Passengers can also use Ride Plus to connect with SamTrans bus routes for travel outside their zone.
Ridership data from East Palo Alto/Belle Haven show the service really picked up in popularity during its first month of operation with 811 total rides.
In the zone covering Half Moon Bay, numbers show 371 rides through July 18, 2023.
SamTrans expected the higher numbers seen in the urban East Palo Alto area where the district has three Ride Plus vans in service daily. There are two regularly operating in Half Moon Bay.
In November, the service will switch to its regular pricing plan which mirrors the same low price you pay to board regular SamTrans buses. Clipper, cash and passes are all accepted on Ride Plus. Clipper and SamTrans mobile app (available in the Apple App and Google Play stores) users also enjoy free two-hour transfers when paying with Clipper, so connecting to and from fixed route service is easy and affordable.

Worthless to me if it doesn’t cover Montara and Moss Beach. And if it doesn’t connect to Pacifica, where many of us do our shopping (rather than HMB) for what we can’t get locally, it’s a non-starter.
I agree. A whole part of the coast has been ignored: moss beach and montara. Great for PR, right?
I can see Moss Beach and Montara but Pacifica makes no sense. They have their own bus systems. Pacifica is also a different community than Montara to south of Half Moon Bay. Not to mention San Gregorio and Pescadero. Are we going to cover those as well? That’s not what this rideshare is for. There are buses that go to Pacifica, no?
There needs to be some sort of transportation from Pescadero to Half Moon Bay though. It’s a little harder to find things that you need in Pescadero than it is to find things in Half Moon Bay, et al.
