PRESS RELEASE. From the San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff Association on July 12th, 2023.
Burlingame, CA – On Tuesday, July 11th, 2023, 17 traffic officers from various law enforcement agencies throughout San Mateo County participated in the San Mateo County Saturation Traffic Enforcement Program (S.T.E.P.). This was the fifth deployment of a collaborative effort to increase traffic safety and awareness in known trouble spots throughout San Mateo County in 2023. This operation effort focused on traffic education and enforcement in the cities of Half Moon Bay and Pacifica.
Officers made over 153 traffic stops and issued 151 citations. Of the 151 citations issued;
- 69 citations were issued for failing to stop for a stop sign,
- 49 citations were issued for cell phone violations,
- 9 citations were issued for unsafe speed,
- 4 citations were issued for seat belt violations,
- 4 citations were issued for failing to obey a posted sign,
- 4 citations were issued for expired registration,
- 4 citations were issued for driving without a driver’s license,
- 2 citations were issued for failing to yield to a pedestrian in a crosswalk,
- 2 citations were issued for driving without a license in possession,
- 2 citations were issued for driving without vehicle insurance,
- 1 citation was issued for failing to stop at a red light,
- 1 citation was issued for an unsafe turning movement,
- I citation was issued for following too close,
- 1 citation was issued for illegal window tint,
- 1 citation was issued for an object obstructing the driver’s vision,
- 1 citation was issued for excessive use of horn,
The participating officers remained committed to making a high volume of traffic stops in this coordinated saturation effort while maintaining the highest levels of community awareness and professionalism.
This was the fifth deployment in several planned multi-agency saturation deployments scheduled to be performed throughout San Mateo County this year. The San Mateo County Police Chiefs and Sheriff’s Association and the California Highway Patrol have all committed to this important safety initiative.
These planned multi-agency saturation deployments will continue throughout San Mateo County in 2023.

Midcoast Community Council (MCC) is an elected Municipal Advisory Council to the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, representing Montara, Moss Beach, El Granada, Princeton, and Miramar.
