This year’s camp promises to offer the best in safe, fun, and educational surfing for kids of all ages.
Our half-day week-long camp is taught by a group of experienced instructors who are Mavericks surfers, lifeguards, and teachers. With their diverse backgrounds, we can ensure a safe and unforgettable experience for all our surfers.
At our surf camp, kids will not only learn to surf but will also gain knowledge about ocean currents and water safety, which will build a solid foundation of respect for the ocean. Additionally, our program boosts personal confidence and self-esteem, providing a valuable learning experience that goes beyond just surfing.

MEET THE TSUNAMI BROTHERS
Two brothers from a small beach town who turned their passion for the ocean into a successful lifestyle business, all while staying true to their core values & mission.
BORN IN THE WATER
As young kids Pete and Tommy grew up in the small coastal town of Half Moon Bay living just 3 blocks from the ocean. Being this close to the ocean they naturally did a lot of swimming and surfing growing up.
They enjoyed swimming but as soon as they surfed a wave for the very first time they were hooked. From then on they started to focus all their time and effort towards surfing knowing it was their true passion.
THE OCEAN IS OUR PASSION
Tommy and Pete’s swimming background gave them great skills and confidence in XXL surf from a young age. They first surfed Mavericks; a triple diamond surf break located in Half Moon Bay, at the age of 15 and 16 years old.
After high school Peter became an Ocean Lifeguard for the State of California while Tommy went to study business down in Santa Barbara. During this time both brothers would teach surf lessons on the side for other surf schools to make a little extra money.
HUMBLE BEGINNING
With three decades and 20,000 hours of combined surfing experience, Tommy and Pete were the perfect duo to start their own surf school. After teaching for other surf schools for three years, Tommy approached Pete with a business plan and, with Pete’s starting capital, they set out to make their dream a reality. In 2018, they launched Tommy Tsunami Surf School, equipped with a website, LLC, insurance, and all the necessary surf gear. With their passion for surfing and entrepreneurial spirit, they are proud to offer top-notch surf lessons to students of all levels.
BUILDING AN EMPIRE BRICK BY BRICK
4 years later and the business has been a huge success! We now offer group and private surf lessons, a kids summer camp and have a team of 15 instructors. On average Tommy Tsunami teaches over 1,000 people a year. Every surfer; beginner to pro, remembers riding their first wave like it was yesterday so we wanted to recreate that experience for other people. Surfing gives people a sense of fulfillment, a connection with the ocean and a healthy lifestyle.
