VIDEO. From the Midcoast Community Council (MCC) meeting on Wednesday, March 22nd, 2023 at 7:00pm as a hybrid meeting.
From the Agenda for the SMCo Supervisor’s meeting on Tuesday, March 28th, 2023 at 9:00am as a hybrid meeting.
To: Honorable Board of Supervisors
From: Supervisor Ray Mueller, District 3
Subject: Appointment to the Midcoast Community Council
RECOMMENDATION:
Recommendation for the appointment of Kimberly Williams to the Midcoast Community Council, for an initial full 4-year term ending December 2026.
BACKGROUND:
The Midcoast Community Council (MCC) advises the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors on matters including, but not limited to, public health, safety, welfare, public works and planning which affect the unincorporated Midcoast communities of Montara, Moss Beach, El Granada, Princeton, and Miramar.
Pursuant to its establishing Resolution, which the Board of Supervisors adopted in 1991, members of the MCC are elected by the registered voters of certain election precincts on the Midcoast. While the establishing Resolution does not speak to the manner in which vacancies are to be filled, the practice since 1998 has been for the MCC to recommend persons for appointment and for action to be taken by the Board of Supervisors to make the appointments.
DISCUSSION:
Kimberly Williams is being recommended to serve a 4-year term for a seat vacated by Dave Olson, whose term expired in December 2022. Four MCC seats were up for election in November 2022, but only three candidates were elected, resulting in a vacancy in a 4-year seat.
Kimberly is an engaged community member of 15 years with a professional background in the field of public policy and experience in grassroots advocacy. Kimberly is currently a member of the San Mateo County Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation, as well as on the Sierra Club’s Loma Prieta Chapter Forest Protection Committee. In 2021, she served on the Surf Camp/School Advisory Task Force for Pacifica’s Parks, Beaches, and Recreation Commission. In 2020, Kimberly also served on the Thrive Alliance project titled “The Story of Single-Use Plastics in San Mateo County.”
This appointment continues to show the collaborative relationship between the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors and the Midcoast Community Council.
FISCAL IMPACT:
None.
