Half Moon Bay, CA – Imagine signing up for your first surf lesson and the instructor paddles you out at the fabled Banzai Pipeline. And tells you to stare down the daunting crowd. So many celebrity faces. So many pros. You commit to your lone wave. But is this a fair test for a first timer?
In Jettywave Distillery’s very first awards entry, to Sunset Magazine’s annual spirits competition, we are blown away to win ‘Double Gold,’ ‘Best Gin’ and ultimately… ‘Best of the Best.’ We are as excited as kicking out of a Pipeline Masters barrel.
Our Coastal Gin was called a ‘stunner’ in the judges ’final tally of 98 points, and placed above all other distillery entries in its 2022 Sunset Magazine International Spirits Competition.
We bring a west coast vigor to this staid Anglo-Saxon spirit, imbuing our love of bold recipes that inspired our Jettywave vision from the beginning. Distilled from organic American corn. Blessed by a bevy of California botanicals. Our Juniper berry and local pistachio base is complemented by thyme, coriander seed, cardamom, ginger root, black pepper, meyer lemon, shiso. The nasturtium coup de grace is plucked from our garden’s on-site blossoms.
We have limited stock of Coastal Gin on hand and are limiting orders to three bottles each. California State regulations prohibit shipping outside our state for the time being.
TASTING NOTES: A winter style gin so effervescent it doesn’t need a tonic (though they team up sublimely). Our juniper mash teases the olfactory and palette, with pistachio providing a creamy structure, which then opens up to a mouthful of botanical and citrus influences. 80 proof. GIMLET RECIPE: 2oz Coastal Gin, ¾ oz fresh lime, ¾ oz simple syrup. Shake with ice and strain into coup glass. Zest lime for garnish.
