PRESS RELEASE. From the Half Moon Bay Odd Fellows on April 26th, 2022. Check out their video below on the SF Contest.
Thousands of aspiring young engineers gathered in Houston, Texas, for the annual First Robotic International Championship April 20-24. Members of the Half Moon Bay Robotics Team (the Pumpkin Bots) were on hand to showcase “Zip Tie” the robot.
In addition, the team was awarded the “Gracious Professionalism” award. A great showing for the Pumpkin Bots and an immense achievement for a club that started from a Moss Beach garage and intended to participate in just one competition. Hear the students’ inspiring story and meet the latest robot(s) this Thursday. Odd Fellows donates to the robotics program.

HMBHS’s Rookie Robotics Team “Pumpkin Bots!” Raise $16k in Days to Go to Robotics World Championship 2022 in Houston
Our rookie Half Moon Bay High School Robotics Team #8793 (Pumpkin Bots!) just qualified to go to the FIRST Robotics World Championships in Houston on 4/20! We are looking to raise $12,500 in the next 48 hours so our kids can have the opportunity of a lifetime.
We have ONLY DAYS to raise funds to fly our team of 9 students and our 90lb robot to Texas! Like Apple, this small but mighty team of Coastside kids started in a garage with a box of parts and no idea what they were getting into. As a first-year team, the initial goal was to build a robot that could drive and maybe score during a competition.
Our team went on to compete at the San Francisco Regional & Silicon Valley Regional competitions.
We went on to win three awards: Rookie Inspiration, Highest Rookie Seed and Rookie ALL STAR which got us qualified for the Robotics World Championship!
So, any support to help make this dream come true would be greatly appreciated!
We hope the new Robotics Club will continue to grow and inspire students of diverse backgrounds to learn more about STEM, develop leadership experience, and follow technical career paths.
Thank you from the entire team of students & mentors!

Lily McGraw – Special to the Half Moon Bay Review March 2, 2022.
Apple, Dell and Amazon all had humble beginnings inside a garage. Perhaps it is no surprise that the Half Moon Bay Robotics Club gathers to build a robot inside a garage in Moss Beach on a Sunday afternoon.
Half Moon Bay High School senior Samantha Norris, 17, and junior Eli Dill, 16, began toying with the idea of starting a robotics club early last year, and in March put their ideas to action.
