Background and Discussion/Report
Biobot Analytics was founded in 2017 out of MIT and initially focused on addressing the opioid epidemic.
Then, at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic in early 2020, Biobot became the first company in the US to validate and commercialize an assay that could detect Covid-19 in wastewater.
Biobot Analytics were in partnership with the US Dept of Health and Human Services (HHS), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), and the National Institute of Health (NIH) to track the presence of COVID-19 in wastewater on a national scale.
Initially, last year, SAM participated in the program briefly for a few weeks at no charge. Subsequently in mid-January, SAM entered into a program on a cost basis and was sending out samples twice weekly.
Typically, 24-hour composite samples of, preferably, raw influent are collected and sent via Fed-Ex overnight shipping to Biobot’s lab in Cambridge, MA using Biobot’s prepaid shipping labels. Biobot’s lab analyzes samples for SARS-CoV-2 concentration levels and sends a report 1 business day later.
The report provides an overview of the latest SARS-CoV2 concentrations, their trends over time, and how they compare to other samples in their database. Presently we have another 8 samples to be sent in the next few weeks. By then we will have more data points and can arrive at some conclusion.
Attached are two recent test results as reference. A representative from Biobot will be making a presentation at the Board meeting and will answer questions and concerns.
