VIDEO. From the RCD/MCC El Granada Wildfire Resiliency Listening Session
January 25, 2022 at 6pm on Zoom.

Members of the El Granada community were invited to a listening session hosted by the RCD to share your insights, information, priorities, and resources related to wildfire resiliency. This is a valuable opportunity to provide input to the Panorama Environmental consultant team for the El Granada Wildfire Resiliency Scoping Project.

Contact [email protected] for information.

The purpose of the El Granada Wildfire Resiliency Scoping Project is to develop a site-specific understanding of wildfire scenarios for El Granada and the surrounding community and scope a suite of actions that would most effectively reduce those risks. It will:

    • Define the wildfire risks to El Granada and affected communities, including overview of fire ecology, local fire history, fire environment (fuels characteristics, fuel models, weather, topography)
    • Assess wildfire risks to El Granada and affected communities, including most likely scenarios, ignition probability, fire behavior, potential fire spread, and general identification of values at risk
    • Identify and scope an array of potential actions that would most effectively reduce those risks and build wildfire resiliency.

Is San Mateo County’s Quarry Park Crown Fire an Tragedy Waiting to Happen?

VIDEO and POWER POINT. From the Midcoast Community Council (MCC) meeting 3/10/2021.

Coastsider, Keith Mangold, presents. Hotter, drier, windier. Diablo winds are increasing the distance embers blow. That is how blown embers can ignite the El Granada eucalyptus crown.

Fire webcams and fire watch volunteers can help during Diablo wind events.

Potential loss in El Granada of its 2,212 housing units at $1 million each is $2.2 billion. What is the cost of cutting the eucalyptus down?

Keith Mangold lives in El Granada. Before he retired, he was a consultant in systems, including disaster recovery for computer centers, train wrecks, lightening, etc..
