PRESS RELEASE. From Ayudando Latinos a Soñar’s (ALAS) Angels of ALAS member Lizette Diaz

As heart breaking as this sounds, the ALAS (Ayudando Latinos a Soñar) “the donated multi-use van”was totaled on December 20, 2021 when it was involved in a car accident on Hwy. 92. It was hit by another vehicle while Case Managers Jorge and Norma were on their way to pick up donations in San Mateo.

The insurance deemed the van a total loss and paid little on the claim.

The multi-use van delivered food to the farm workers on Fridays, household goods (like diapers) to those without access to a vehicle and picked up food donations from various locations like Coastside Hope .

Recently ALAS had to rent a U-Haul truck to pick up donations and to drop off food and necessities to low income families and individuals.

The van also had a beautiful mural painted by Fresno artist Steven Nunez. He transformed the van into artwork, with one side that represented the ALAS arts program and the other representing the Coastside farms’ workers.

I’m writing this letter to collect funds to purchase not just one but two vans for the ALAS staff so they can continue providing to our Coastsiders in need.

Our goal is to collect $25,000 within the next couple of weeks.

Donations can be made by check, cash or to ALAS PayPal and dropped off at the ALAS house, 630 Purissima Street in Half Moon Bay, CA.

Thank you so much for your contributions to this important cause!
