VIDEO. From the Half Moon Bay City Council meeting on September 7th, 2021 at 7:00pm by Zoom. Introduced by Mayor Robert Brownstone and presented by City Manager, Bob Nisbet. Cameron Palmer, of the Half Moon Bay Beautification Committee, which runs the Pumpkin Festival, responds to questions.

Half Moon Bay City Council Unanimously Cancels the 2021 Half Moon Bay Pumpkin Festival and Summers End Concerts due to rise of the Delta variant.

The smaller, very local, early Monday morning Pumpkin Weigh-Off will continue, with the permission of the Council, at the IDES Hall Parking lot on Main Street.

Staff Recommendation:

Review the Pumpkin Festival Special Event Permit application, receive a presentation from representatives of the Beautification Committee, and decide if the event should proceed this year given ongoing health concerns associated with COVID-19.

Fiscal Impact:

There is no significant fiscal impact to the City if the event is cancelled.

If the event proceeds, the City will contribute approximately $35,000 in a combination of sponsorship funding and “in-kind” services. The event is a major fundraiser for local non-profits and generates economic benefits to local businesses through tourism. The Beautification Committee can provide an estimate of how much collectively is generated to support non-profits, should the event proceed.
