NOTE: This recruitment schedule was amended on February 23, 2021 to extend the closing date. Final Closing Date will be April 5, 2021. The job announcement was also amended on March 3, 2021 to update the salary below.
San Mateo County Libraries is seeking qualified college students or continuing education professionals seeking a future with your education for the position of Big Lift Inspiring Summers Learning Facilitator Intern.
The Position: Learning Facilitators will be responsible for leading implementation of our cutting-edge curriculum developed in partnership with the Center for Childhood Creativity and collaborating with the other staff in their classroom. Learning Facilitators will be responsible for establishing and maintaining an environment that embraces the growth mindset, actively facilitates open-ended, child directed projects with children, and looks for every opportunity to embrace and incorporate youth creativity.
Summer Learning Camps: The camps serve children reading below grade level in areas where the majority of youth qualify for free or reduced lunch. Full day camps build 21st century skills through hands-on learning experiences. Staff working intensively with enrolled youth will have the opportunity to make our community a stronger, healthier, and more equitable place. These summer learning experiences are a critical part of our County’s strategy of dramatically reducing the number of youth who cannot read on grade level in 3rd grade. If you can’t read proficiently in 3rd grade, you are at significant risk for a number of troubling outcomes, outcomes that disproportionately affect youth of color and socioeconomically disadvantaged youth. Help us change the world by inspiring youth with your love of learning, warmth, and by igniting problem-solving. Help us support youth in a summer program aimed to build confident youth who will have the benefit of high quality, cutting-edge learning experiences with caring and passionate adults.
Location: Big Lift Inspiring Summer Learning Facilitator Interns will be assigned to work at one of seven learning camps with children who will be entering kindergarten, first, second, or third grade in the Fall. The camps are located in South San Francisco, Daly City, East Palo Alto/Menlo Park, Half Moon Bay, Pescadero, Redwood City, and San Bruno.
Schedule: This 6 week internship will begin with 7-8 days of required training and will then continue with a 4 week assignment in one of our learning camps. The 4-week camp assignment will either be part-time [20-25 hours per week, 4-5 hours per day Monday-Friday] or full-time [35-40 hours per week, 7-8 hours per day Monday-Friday].
Health and Safety: San Mateo County Libraries is a CDC compliant workplace. Guidelines have been developed to ensure the health and safety of our staff and students and will be updated as needed in accordance with county and state rules.
