What Happens If SFPUC Watershed Keepers Lose Their Sheriff Powers and Have to Use 911 in a Fire?

January 1, 2021
Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
PROTEST.  Is this a big deal?  Ken Lomba is the President of the San Francisco Deputy Sheriff’s Association, and he thinks so.
He had 7 days to comment starting 12/23/2020.
His protest is 12/29/2020 (see below).

12/29/2020 Formal Protest from the SF Deputy Sheriff’s Association

Consider this story if there are no peace officer access to communications and they have to call 911:

Hey Steve,

This is a very big deal.  Not only are we talking about the safety of SF’s water supply but also looks like the Hetch Hetchy reservior which PUC leases and has building on, not only provides the drinking water to Crystal Spring but it also produces electricity from its dam.  I believe City Officials, at times, stay at the residential homes at the Hetch Hetchy area.  The SF Sheriff’s Office has responded to threats to employees safety there before as well as handled an eviction.

This is a very big safety issue and should not be taken lightly, these are critical infrastructures for San Francisco.

I filed this protest, see attached.

Best regards,

Ken Lomba

Subject: RE: 7270 Watershed KeeperKen, following up on my earlier e-mail.  I have learned that when issues do arise that require a fully sworn peace officer, PUC utilizes Sheriffs from San Mateo and Alameda county.  Point being, even if they were compelled to hire fulltime sheriff staff, they likely would be doing that with those counties.Anyway, do you have time to chat about this today?[DHR-6@1]

Subject: RE: 7270 Watershed KeeperKen, this classification, which has been in existence for decades, is represented by SEIU.Per the notice below, the changes are clean-up in nature.https://sfdhr.org/sites/default/files/documents/Classification-Actions/2020-2021/Preliminary-Posting-09-7470-Amend-122320.pdfIf you think this work should be performed by Deputy Sheriffs, you can reach out to PUC to have those discussions.  Have you done that?

Holding up the clerical amendment to this specification is not going to facilitate that discussion.

Happy to discuss this more when you have a moment.
Thanks

Subject: Re: 7270 Watershed KeeperThanks Steve,This is a peace officer position, that is interictal in the protection of critical infrastructure and the watershed has problems with local levels of crime on the 23,000 acres that can be very dangerous.  From trespassing to swat teams being called in to remove marijuana grows and when their are drugs there are weapons. This position technically for efficiency and logistics should be conducted by the Sheriff’s Office.Best regards,
