My name is Lucas Salinero.

I am a recent HMBHS graduate and Editor-In-Chief for FYR, a new online literary magazine that will publish writing and illustrations created by all people (of all ages) in response to the recent wildfires.
In collaboration with Sheridan and GraceAnn Stewart, we’re looking to expand our connection and reach all coastsiders in an effort to share our communal experience.
Regards,
Lucas J. Salinero

Sept. 17th, 2020. Posting for my 12 year old daughter who is working on putting a collection of stories together with another student. They want to give the community some space to express themselves:

The creation of FYR Literary Magazine has just been announced. FYR, pronounced fire, means For Your Reflection. It will be an inclusive variety of creations involving fire. We hope people of all ages and from all areas of the world will share their stories, poetry, art, and photos.
With over 95% containment at our closest fire, and the relief of clean air today, we will begin working on ways to help our community and beyond. By giving people a place to express themselves, we hope it will help in their healing, as well as help readers understand and connect with compassion to others and how they must feel during this time.
Please visit www.2020fyr.com for submission guidelines. October 13th is the deadline and the magazine will be published online by the end of October. It is free to submit, free to read, no advertisements, no exchange of money. You can download the magazine free as a PDF and print it or have a printer (like UPS) print and spiral bind it.
We are creating FYR Literary Magazine as our gift to the community. Please participate! We are not extending the submission deadline and would like to make sure we capture as much as possible in this short time.
Thank you!

Here Are Questions to Help Brainstorm and Write

What do you know about wildfires?

Have you been affected by a fire? Has anything changed in your life because of a fire? Do you know anyone affected by a fire? Are you scared?

Have you seen a fire or any photos of fires?

Do you smell smoke? Are you able to breathe clean air?

Have you had to evacuate? Do you know anyone who has had to evacuate?  Are they okay? Where did they go?

What do you think of the orange sky people have seen?

Would you be a good firefighter?

Would you rather drive a truck, dig fire lines, spray water, and/or rescue people? Would you want to operate a helicoptor that drops water?

Would you want to be the pilot of an airplane that sprays the fire?

What job would you want to perform to help people?

Would you adopt an animal to help families affected by a fire?

If you were told to evacuate in 15 minutes, what would you do?

Do you know anyone who has lost their house? How do you feel about this? What do you know about fire safety?

What would you do if your house was on fire? Do you have a plan? Will you draw a photo of fire?

FYR is for all people of all ages. Some people will never have their work published  and this is a great opportunity for people to express themselves, be published, and  be part of an inclusive worldwide project!
