VIDEO. At the City of Half Moon Bay and Cabrillo Unified School District (CUSD)2×2 Meeting” on 6/29/2020, they discuss joint use facility agreements, but in particular, the opening of the Half Moon Bay High School pool.

@ 44:55 City starts talking about the reopening the pool.

Three years ago, I was teaching a CERT class with Half Moon Bay Coastside Battalion Chief, David Cosgrave.

Cary Smith, Deputy Harbor Master at Pillar Point Harbor, was speaking that day to the students on water safety and what he does for his job. He asked the kids who could swim and one third, all Latino, could not raise their hands.

I told the kids that I would teach them in the High School pool! They were pretty excited.

On the first day that school was out I went up to the HS pool to check out what the hours would be.

This is what I found. The big empty.

I went to Deputy City Manager, Matthew Chidester, who grew up on the Coast and learned to swim is this very pool.  He was very supportive then, and still til this day is pushing the pool forward.

Both the City and CUSD are making the pool opening a goal, even as Covid rages around us. The City and CUSD go 2×2, as we are in this together.

Stay tuned.
