PHOTO-ESSAY. I am an admin of the Coastside Sewing Collective, which Bruce Jones spearheaded and I coordinate as the distribution person.
We’ve had 1000’s of masks made and distributed over this pandemic to the point that local hospitals no longer need them, as PPE is now in sufficient supply.
Ema Bowman, a new coastsiders and a VISA retiree has added new juice to our engines. Her 27 year old son, Kyle, a Menlo School Graduate and water polo goalie (he’s 6’10”!), got Covid 19 in Boston. It was the fight of his life. He survived, after numerous attempts to be admitted to the hospital, he got through it all at home with his fiancé’s support. He now is cured and has a new puppy with his fiancé.
Ema kicked into mask making big time and helped align us with Maker Nexus in Sunnyvale. Now our sewers are making masks, dropping them at my house or Ink Spell Books and getting them to Navajo Reservations, seniors and homeless as well as medical workers through Maker Nexus, a non-profit. We now have shipping costs covered and materials if we need them. Wire for nose guards is a commodity!
Add to that, local nurse and Red Cross volunteer, Debbie Fletcher-Rodrigues, has taken our masks to the Red Cross.
This fight is not near over and Maker Nexus received a request for 2000 masks today.
