Video for Part 1: Wednesday, May 13th from 6:30-7:30 PM
Earthquakes and Tsunamis Pt 1 from mdragony on Vimeo.
Coastside CERT needs to start preparing for The California Great Shake-Out on October 15th of this year. https://www.shakeout.org/california/faq/ In preparation and with our newfound love of home and remote learning, Coastside CERT and the Earthquake Country Alliance will present 2 different 1hr segments of the Coastside Great Shake-IN!
Wednesday, May 13th from 6:30-7:30 PM, Coastside CERT and the Earthquake Country Alliance will host Part 1 of the Coastside Great Shake-IN. Local experts from USGS will cover local geology and threats from earth movement and tsunamis:
Andrew Michael, Ph.D., is a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey’s Earthquake Science Center in Menlo Park where he combines observations of earthquake processes and statistical models to determine earthquake probabilities, to evaluate earthquake prediction methods, and to understand how stress and structure function as part of the seismogenic process.
Stephanie Ross, Ph.D., is a USGS research geophysicist with the Pacific Coastal and Marine Science Center. Dr. Ross’ research focuses on paleotsunamis (tsunamis caused by earthquakes and landslides) with the goal of tsunami hazard mitigation and risk reduction.

Mark Benthien is Director for Communication, Education, and Outreach for the Southern California Earthquake Center at the University of Southern California where he works to increase earthquake and tsunami awareness and to reduce loss. Mark is also Executive Director of the Earthquake Country Alliance, which organizes the annual Great California Shake-Out earthquake drill. He was recognized as a White House “Champion of Change” for expanding Shake-Out participation worldwide (2019: 68 million people in 75 countries).
We are waiting to see who we get for the MyShake/ShakeAlert… but worst case scenario you’ll get me! https://myshake.berkeley.edu/about-us.html
We will send a link and update for Part 2 next week but just wanted to save the date. We understand that 6:30 -7:30 PM does not work for all but we did a sample poll and this was the best for most…. So hope to see you there. Eat early.
