2022 Election Filing Period in Over… So Who is Running? Coastside Election Roundup

Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...
OWN VOICE. Half Moon Bay Review‘s Editor, Clay Lambert, is right that running for office is getting harder and harder. Young people with families are overwhelmed by modern life and add the hours needed to study an agenda, find childcare for your kids and show up for a multi-hour meeting after work, by Zoom, or in-person.
Maybe a stipend/compensation would help to pay for childcare, a computer to Zoom, transportation for in-person meetings and the cost of their time? How does a service worker run for office? They would sure be a great point of view to hear, but many are working multiple by-the-hour jobs, with little schedule flexibility to even get to a meeting to listen, let alone serve.

Coastside Stipend/Compensation Roundup

Half Moon Bay Council member, Joaquin Jimenez, has hinted at paying people to serve. There are small stipends.

HMB City Council members will receive an annual salary of $11,466 ($955.50/month).

Coastside Fire Protection District (CFPD) directors receive $167.50 per meeting with 2 meetings per month equalling $335.00

Montara Water and Sanitary District (MWSD) directors receive $1,275 to $750/year. Some Directors serve on committees that meet multiple times a year, other directors are listed for committees that may not meet at all. Some directors attend all regular scheduled meetings other can’t due to illness vacation etc.

Granada Community Services District (GCSD) directors receive $145 per meeting with 1 meeting per month.

Cabrillo Unified School District (CUSD) Each member of the Governing Board may receive a monthly compensation of $252.00.

Midcoast Community Council (MCC), under the supervision of San Mateo County, receives no compensation.

San Mateo County Harbor District commissioners compensation is an annual compensation of $7,200 per year.

Coastside County Water District (CCWD). Directors receive $150 per board meeting or committee meeting.  Some may attend more committee meetings so that’s why there is a differential.

The NEW San Mateo County Farmworker Advisory Commission will compensate commissioners with $100 per meeting.
